IMPROVISATION
It is believed that improvisation--the art of saying and doing things off the top of your head--began in pre-history, when cavemen discovered that it was much more convenient than writing out a script for every daily interaction. Those cavemen also passed down the basic rules of improv: "Yes, and" (ie. always agree with your fellow caveman, and add information to the scene), commit to your choices (ie. if a caveman is hunting sabertooth tigers with a French accent, he shouldn't drop the accent) and "make your partner look good" (ie. dress him in the finest mammoth skins).
COMEDY
From Aristotle to Carrot Top, humans have grappled with the question: What is funny? Instinctively, we all know when to laugh and when we're not impressed. But after reading Carrot Top's philosophy--or watching Aristotle's prop comedy—-it's clear that there's no one right answer. At the Exit Players, we like to say that something's funny if it "makes the audience laugh," or they find it "funny."
IMPROVISATIONAL
COMEDY Improv comedy is--unsurprisingly--the combination of improv and comedy. It's really fun to do, it's really fun to watch, and it's even really fun to audition for. But don't take our word for it - come to our workshops, shows, and auditions!
